Further product informations
Solid oak stair treads can be ordered in a thickness of approx. 30, 35 and 40 mm. You also have the option of having rectangular as well as individual stair tread shapes made. Each step is made from our beautiful oak wood, which we also use for our oak tables and all our other products. So each step is made from high quality German oak, which is guaranteed to come from German sustainable forestry. We explicitly guarantee that we do not participate in the overexploitation of nature!
Each step is a step into happiness and a special part of your quality of life.
Surface treatment
The natural edge is brushed and lightly sanded so that it retains its natural character. Larger knotholes, natural cracks and unevenness are sealed with very dark epoxy resin, which tends to black. Smaller knotholes, cracks and dried wormholes are treated with wax on the surface. In terms of quality, there is no need to completely fill up every little unevenness or dried wormhole. This is especially true for the underside. The surface is then sanded flat and oiled so that you can use your solid wood panel immediately after delivery.
Execution
The wall side/s of the solid oak stair treads are straight. For the front or visible edge, you can choose between a straight edge, a plain natural edge and a curved (rustic) natural edge. Due to the natural edge, a deviation of approx. 5 cm in depth is to be expected. This means that if you order a stair tread in 80 x 40 cm, for example, the depth will actually be between 40 and 45 cm at the bottom of the tree edge. However, if you select the straight edge, the stair tread will be made exactly to the depth ordered.
If your desired size is between two sizes
If the exact desired size cannot be selected, please choose the nearest size.
After purchase, please send us the exact measurements, stating the order number.
If the stair tread or treads are to have an individual shape, we need a sketch for each tread anyway.
Please note that we have a manufacturing tolerance of 1-2 mm.
Evenness and tolerance
Wood is a living material and works. Light and temperature have an effect before, during and after production. We strive to keep the surfaces flat and work to millimetre precision. We have very good tools and high-quality machines, as well as qualified and talented staff. Nevertheless, we allow a tolerance of a few mm. Especially high lengths of benches, tables and washstands are not and cannot be kept and manufactured 100% even. Slight unevenness is in the nature of things and has its own charm. You may achieve 100 % evenness with plywood or solid wood elements that are glued together from many smaller pieces (glued wood panels with lamella widths of 3-5 cm). However, since we work with long and 20 to 40 cm wide planks that are kept very natural, this is not the case. We also allow a few millimetres of tolerance in terms of flatness.

Special shapes / individual shape
The stairs often go around the corner or are designed as a spiral staircase. In addition, every now and then there is a platform/stair landing in a special shape and size.
For this we absolutely need at least a hand-made sketch that shows the exact dimensions.
Attached is an example image.
What size do I have to order for an individual staircase?
The individual stair step must fit into a rectangle. See also an example image here.
Please note that we have a manufacturing tolerance of 1-2 mm.
Where is the wall side / Why a bevel?
The corners under the stair cladding are often uneven and pieces of mortar, concrete or cement are not uncommon.
That is why we need the specification of the so-called wall side or sides so that we can set up a chamfer under the stair treads at the relevant points. This helps to place the stair tread as close as possible to the wall side. Admittedly, this can only be used to overcome minor unevenness.
Please note that we have a manufacturing tolerance of 1-2 mm.
Care
You can purchase a suitable care set for optimal care of your vanity top. The recommended semi-annual re-oiling and minor repairs can easily be carried out yourself. The care set consists of a bottle of hard wax oil, hand sandpaper, a soft wax bar including a spatula and a cotton cloth for applying/wiping off the oil. Further information on care can be found here.
Origin of our woods
We source our oak wood exclusively from controlled forestry in Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Bavaria.
We are also committed to reforestation and have already planted 130 oak trees this year and there will be more to come.
Woods from Eastern European or non-European overexploitation have no chance with us! Please read more about this on our values page.
